A US woman, Lucinda Mullins, 41, faced a horrific fate when she lost all her limbs after a simple kidney stone surgery. She did not know that the kidney stone had triggered a serious infection that made her septic. She was in a coma for several days at a Kentucky hospital, where doctors had to amputate her legs below the knees to save her life. She later found out that she would also have to amputate her arms below the elbows.

Mullins told the New York Post that the doctor she used to work with told her that this was the only way to keep her alive. However, she did not let this news ruin her spirit and attitude towards life.
She said she was thankful to be alive and to have more time with her husband and two young sons. “I’m just so happy to be alive,” she said. “I get to see my kids. I get to see my family. I get to have my time with my husband. Those are minor things at this point. I just said, ‘These are the cards I’ve been dealt and these are the hands I’m going to play’,”
she added. Her sister Luci Smith posted photos of them smiling outside the hospital after the life-changing surgery. She wrote on Facebook that every day was a blessing from God and that they would thank him for the miracles he had done. She said that Mullins got to go outside for some fresh air and that she would keep fighting until they were home.
