Plot
Set during the Azuchi-Momoyama period of Japanese history, Assassin’s Creed Shadows begins in 1579 and continues into the early 1580s. This game is notable for being the first since 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate to feature the Assassins and Templars in their ‘classic’ forms.

The story of Assassin’s Creed Shadows revolves around two protagonists: Naoe, a fictional female shinobi trained by her father Fujibayashi Nagato, a master ninja of the Iga clan, and Yasuke, a real historical figure. Yasuke, originally from Africa, arrived in Japan with the Portuguese in 1579 and soon became a samurai serving Lord Oda Nobunaga. This is the first Assassin’s Creed game that lets you play as a real person from the past!
What is Different?
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is an action-adventure stealth game similar to its predecessors. However, it introduces several new features and improvements:
- Stealth and Dynamic Lighting: The game emphasizes stealth, dynamic lighting, and environmental interactions, allowing players to manipulate shadows. With a new global illumination system, dynamic light and shadows will significantly impact enemy vision, enhancing the stealth experience.
- Environmental Interactions: Players can now hide in shadows and even create darkness by destroying lanterns or killing torch carriers.
- Parkour: The game introduces a grappling hook for parkour, which uses physics simulation to allow dynamic swinging.
- Seasonal Changes: The world progresses through seasons, each affecting gameplay.
- Dual Protagonists: Unlike previous titles, Shadows features two protagonists and you can switch between them as you play through the campaign.
