Brief Storyline

The film is set nearly 300 years after the events of “War for the Planet of the Apes” (2017). Ape civilizations have emerged from the oasis to which Caesar led his fellow apes, while humans have regressed into a primitive state. The story follows Noa, a common chimpanzee, who embarks on a harrowing journey alongside a young human named Nova to determine the future for apes and humans alike.

The ape leader, Proximus Caesar, perverts Caesar’s teachings to enslave other clans in search for remnants of human technologies. This sets the stage for a conflict that will define the future of both species.

Cast of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

The lead role in the film is played by Owen Teague as Noa, a young chimpanzee born nearly 300 years after Caesar’s time. Freya Allan plays Nova, a feral young woman who joins Noa on his journey. Kevin Durand portrays Proximus Caesar, a powerful bonobo ruler who leads a coastal clan of apes in search for human technologies. Other notable cast members include Peter Macon as Raka, a wise orangutan and an ally of Noa.

Comparison with Previous Sequels

“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” is set several generations after the events of “War for the Planet of the Apes” and introduces a new cast of characters. It explores the aftermath of Caesar’s death, highlighting the changes in both ape and human societies. The film delves deeper into ape civilization and potentially bridges the gap to the original Planet of the Apes film.

Recap of Caesar’s death. 20th century studio

The most recent trilogy followed the journey of Caesar, the highly-intelligent chimpanzee responsible for the spread of the virus that increased the intelligence of apes while simultaneously wiping out humanity. However, with Caesar dying at the end of “War For the Planet of the Apes”, the newest entry focuses on what happens to the rest of the Earth, apes, and humans without Caesar’s leadership in place.
