Over the past two weeks, New York City has grappled with a surge of fear stemming from a serial stabbing suspect who has been haunting the borough of Queens. Jermain Rigueur, a 27-year-old resident, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of assault.
Queens Stabbing Spree Unleashed
Commencing in early January, the stabbing spree unfolded randomly and without provocation, instilling heightened fear and anxiety among Queens residents. The assailant targeted individuals while they were merely walking, with at least five people falling victim to the unexplained attacks.
Victims and Their Injuries
The victims, all attacked while walking, include a 71-year-old man who was stabbed while accompanied by his wife, a 41-year-old stabbed minutes later, and a woman assaulted in the torso on her way home. The first incident occurred on January 8 when a 61-year-old man was stabbed. All victims received medical treatment at a local hospital and are anticipated to recover.
Jermain Rigueur: The Suspect
Identified as the perpetrator, Jermain Rigueur, a Queens resident and a greeter at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn, was apprehended after an intensive NYPD manhunt. Now facing multiple assault charges, Rigueur is in police custody.
Investigation and Charges
The NYPD, deploying surveillance images of the suspect, swiftly led to Rigueur’s identification and subsequent arrest. Overnight, attempted murder charges were filed against Rigueur for his alleged involvement in the stabbing of five people over the two-week period. As legal proceedings unfold, the city anticipates justice for the victims and a restoration of safety and peace in the community.
