The much-anticipated second season of HBO’s blockbuster series, “The Last of Us,” is gearing up to introduce a slew of fresh faces, with recent casting revelations sparking excitement among fans.
Isabela Merced takes on the role of Dina, adding to her impressive resume that includes films like “Rosaline” and “Dina and the Lost City of Gold.” Dina is characterized as a “free-wheeling spirit whose devotion to Ellie will be tested by the brutality of the world they inhabit.” Co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann lauded Merced, stating, “Dina is warm, brilliant, wild, funny, moral, dangerous, and instantly lovable. Kaitlyn Dever, celebrated for her role in “Unbelievable,” steps into the shoes of Abby. Abby is a skilled soldier whose black-and-white perspective on the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved. This casting announcement marks a significant moment for the series, being the first one made this year.
Emmy-nominated actor Young Mazino, known for his role in Netflix’s acclaimed limited series, “Beef,” joins the cast as Jesse. Described as “a pillar of his community who puts everyone else’s needs before his own, sometimes at terrible cost,” Jesse plays a crucial role in the storyline, being part of a love triangle with Ellie and Dina and standing as one of Ellie’s key allies.
“The Last of Us” Season 2 is poised to mirror the events of the PlayStation game’s 2020 sequel, “The Last of Us Part II,” set five years after the occurrences of the first game. Already hailed as the greatest game-based TV series, the new casting announcements have only intensified the anticipation for the upcoming season.
