Xbox Games: Rumours
Early February, several reports speculated that Microsoft was planning on releasing several big exclusives titles like Starfield, Indiana Jones & The Great Circle, Halo and Gears Of Wars on the PlayStation 5.
The Announcement
On February 15, 2024, those rumours were swiftly debunked, but Microsoft did announce their intention “to take four games to the other consoles [PS5 and Nintendo Switch]”. While the exact titles were not disclosed by Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft’s gaming division, but he confirmed that the two are community-driven titles while the other two are smaller games.
The Strategy
This move is a part of Microsoft’s broader strategy to grow its gaming business. The company is planning to increase its sales of first-party games over selling hardware. The company has been on a long acquisition spree, purchasing several studios, including Mojang, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard.
Another move is Microsoft’s Game Pass subscription service, which gives Xbox owners access to hundreds of games for a fixed monthly fee, which has grown to 34 million subscribers. The service was expanded to PC two years later.
