He will be greatly missed by so many.” Born in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, and raised in Texas, Canto embarked on his career at 16 as a singer-songwriter in Mexico City. He later ventured into acting, making his TV debut in the 2009 Mexican series “Estado de Gracia.” His American debut occurred in 2013 on Kevin Williamson’s Fox drama series “The Following,” starring alongside Kevin Bacon.
Canto’s notable roles encompassed Vice President-elect Aaron Shore on “Designated Survivor,” Colombian politician Rodrigo Lara Bonilla on “Narcos,” and the mutant Sunspot in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” He starred in Halle Berry’s directorial debut, “Bruised,” and directed two short films, one in 2014 and another in 2020, a provocative western featuring Theo Rossi.
At the time of his passing, Canto was starring as Armand Morales on Fox’s “The Cleaning Lady,” which is currently filming its third season. Although he couldn’t participate due to his illness, Canto had hoped to rejoin later in the season.
